Peter Upton


Managing Director

As the founder of Upton Growth Partners, Peter’s personal passion for the entrepreneurial space has shaped much of what our business has become. Peter’s post-articles career began gaining global experience, initially in the UK. At Carnaud MetalBox, the world’s largest packaging company, he was responsible for designing and implementing reporting standards across Europe.

He was transferred to the US as part of an international team, tasked with building the Group’s first “World-Class Manufacturing” facility. On completion of his overseas assignment, he had attained the position of Plant Manager of this $45 million turnover operation.

Back in South Africa, as CFO of the KSDP Group, a multinational design agency, Peter gained both business turnaround and sales experience. With the mandate of readying the company for sale, within two years he had more than doubled its net operating margin and the business was sold at an earnings multiple of 18, unheard of at that time.

Having enjoyed a taste of entrepreneurship, he co-founded Switch, a multi-disciplined design agency. Ten years later, at an annual turnover of R80 million, the group was the largest independently-owned design agency on the continent with offices in Kenya, Nigeria and London.

Peter then founded Upton Growth Partners, and today leads a team focused on helping other entrepreneurs achieve their growth aspirations.
